For Charlie Kirk, higher education is a political battleground — a place where his "Team Right" has been losing for too long.

To the Members of the Berkeley Campus Community,

As I write this, I am aware of the uncertainty surrounding Ann Coulter's stated intention to come to campus tomorrow afternoon. We will be sending out a separate message later today with updated information about safety arrangements, as well as our hopes and expectations regarding how members of our campus community should conduct themselves. For now, I want to share my thoughts about all that has led up to the current situation in which we find ourselves.

For many, working in sports seems like an escapist fantasy. But as the A-list panelists at Berkeley Law's Sports & Society Conference April 13-14 made clear, success on the field—and in the field—is rigorous work.

I am so pleased and proud of the hard work that our division is doing to bring equity and inclusion into everyday practice, and with far reach. Today, I am especially honored to work alongside and acknowledge members of our E&I family who have been selected as the 2017 recipient of the Chancellor's Outstanding Staff Award (COSA). I'd like to take a moment to share with you who they are - and highlight the services for which they have earned this high distinction.

Elisa Huerta – Multicultural Community Center

In recent years, the campus coalition of multicultural resource organizations, including bridges, BRRC, the Raíces Center, PASS and REACH!, has expanded to include two more groups: the Middle Eastern and North African Recruitment and Retention Center and the Mixed Student Union, according to Carolyn Nguyen, executive director of bridges.

The free conference – the only one of its kind in the 10-campus UC system – took just three days to fill after it was advertised.

Participants learned how to search for jobs, write winning resumes, network, negotiate job offers and salaries, locate internships and identify and celebrate their strengths as first-generation students.

A highlight of the event was the students' chance to interact with employers and alumni who also were the first college graduates in their families and now represent companies including Google, IBM, Microsoft, Amazon, General Electric and Yelp.
