Honoring Veterans Day

UC Berkeley diversity equity and inclusion
November 7, 2024

Dear campus community,

On Monday, we recognize Veterans Day, marked by a two-minute moment of silence to honor the sacrifice of veterans occurring simultaneously across the nation at 11:11 a.m. November is also when military families are honored for their service. While Memorial Day honors military personnel who have given their lives and Armed Forces Day celebrates those on active duty; Veterans Day is unique in that it allows us to thank and honor the public service of our veteran and military-connected community. A few highlights are below:

Events

  • November 11, 2024 at 11:11 a.m.: Two-minute moment of silence to honor the sacrifice of veterans that will occur simultaneously across the nation on Veterans Day
  • November 12, 2024 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.: Veteran and Military-Connected Mixer at Alumni House
  • November 16, 2024 (game time TBD): The Cal vs Syracuse Football game is the Military Appreciation Game. Cal Football is grateful for those who have served and continue to serve our country. In honor of Veterans Day, join us in honoring former and active military personnel and their families. During halftime, there will be an on-field swearing in ceremony of current ROTC cadets. Tailgate at Wurster Hall Platform Art Space three hours before game time. RSVP and request tickets. Discounted tickets are for military-connected community members.

To help create an environment that lives up to our seven Principles of Community, we will send regular messages to acknowledge various heritage/history months and holidays. While we won't include every month or holiday, we will make an effort to ensure members of our community feel represented. Additionally, news.berkeley.edu and Berkeley Life Blog will often post articles highlighting people, programs, and research that align with these heritage/history months and holidays. Learn more about our updated approach to heritage/history/prevention month messaging
