Berkeley News

This week we are celebrating the 10th anniversary of the C.V. Starr East Asian Library and the Chang-Lin Tien Center for East Asian Studies — the latter named for Berkeley’s seventh chancellor. These events, for me, bring Chang-Lin even more vividly to mind. He was, of course, the first person of Asian descent to lead a major American research university. Dear campus community,

Every member of the UC Berkeley community is a valuable contributor to the university, regardless of immigration status. We remain steadfast in welcoming, supporting, and building community with our undocumented students and staff.

Dear campus community,

On behalf of the MyVoice Working Group and its Action Planning team, I write to provide the latest updates on the MyVoice survey initiative and to invite your participation in the next stage of this important project.

Dear Campus Community,

Berkeley News

I’m excited to write the second “On My Mind” column in the Berkeleyan, where senior campus leaders like me will share our experiences, thoughts and visions for the community. Public Affairs, UC Berkeley

Campus leaders gathered this week to dedicate UC Berkeley’s newest residence hall to David Blackwell, the first black professor to receive tenure at Berkeley and a preeminent statistician who died in 2010. Blackwell Hall opened to more than 750 students in August and features study centers, a gym and plenty of ping-pong and pool tables.

Chancellor Carol Christ told the crowd that it was a fitting tribute to Blackwell to have an undergraduate residence hall named in his honor.
