Marc Fisher, UC Berkeley’s vice chancellor for administration, and Alicia Johnson, director of emergency management, issued the following message on Sunday morning. It was updated at 4:40 p.m. Sunday to include the news that Moffitt Library will open Monday at 8 a.m. 

Good morning. We are writing with an update about the PG&E power shut-off. But first, we must extend our best thoughts to employees who are themselves affected by the fires in Sonoma County or have family members who are affected.

Cal Message

We are pleased to report that the campus has re-connected to  PG&E power as of 1 p.m.today, welcome news that has brought the campus back to normal power.

Classes were previously canceled for today but research activities may resume today and  special events may take place later today and this evening as planned. All parking lots are now open.

The campus is ready for full normal weekend operations for Saturday and Sunday.  Normal weekday operations will start on Monday.

PG&E has shut down power to the UC Berkeley campus. ALL classes are cancelled for Thursday (10/10/2019). Employees, please contact your managers for further direction.

During the power outage, many campus areas and buildings may be dark, which could make navigating the campus more difficult and raise personal safety concerns. For that reason, we encourage members of the campus community to not make unnecessary trips to campus during the power outage.

Campus Power Outage Information 

The planned PG&E power outage that will impact the core campus is expected to occur sometime this afternoon. We encourage the campus community to continue to prepare and to take safety precautions.
