Honoring the Restorative Justice Center’s 13 years with E&I as it transitions to a new focus

December 16, 2025

After thirteen years of dedicated service to the UC Berkeley community, the Restorative Justice Center (RJC) will be changing at the end of the 2025 calendar year. Established in 2012 through a seed grant from the Division of Equity and Inclusion, RJC has provided a vital space for dialogue, accountability, and community-based responses to harm on campus.

We want to celebrate the leadership of Dr. Julie Shackford-Bradley, co-founder and Director of RJC. Julie has guided the center with vision, care, and an unwavering commitment to restorative principles, helping students, faculty, staff, and community partners engage in meaningful dialogue, accountability, and transformation.

Over the past decade, RJC has:

  • Established a unique and specialized response to identity harm
  • Expanded leadership training via the Graduate Ambassadors Program and faculty support
  • Pioneered groundbreaking RJ application for NAGPRA cases via strategic partnership
  • Served nearly 1,000 individuals across campus through direct intervention and training

While RJC will no longer provide direct conflict resolution or harm repair services on campus, its legacy and impact will continue. Moving forward, the hub’s focus will shift to provide information and resources about all matters relating to Restorative Justice and Truth, Justice and Reconciliation in the United States and beyond.

Resources and Support

The RJC website will transition into a Restorative Justice Hub, connecting the campus community with educational materials, guidance, and external restorative justice partners who can provide facilitation, dialogue, and training.

We extend our deepest gratitude to Julie and to everyone who has contributed to RJC’s work over the past decade.
