How long have you been at Berkeley?

I have been at Berkeley since 2012. I began my time as an undergraduate student. Since then, I’ve held professional roles on campus with various units. Some spaces I have been part of include Parking & Transportation, the Center for Educational Partnerships, and now the Centers for Educational Equity and Excellence!

What do you love most about working here?

The people - I get to work with staff that are dedicated to our students and passionate about what they do, which motivates me to do my best work. Many of my colleagues also played a big role in my educational journey when I was an undergraduate student here, so it’s an honor and privilege to be able to learn from and work alongside them. I could not do this work without them. And, of course, the students, including our TRIO SSS Scholars. They bring such a wealth of knowledge and experience to Berkeley and always teach me something new about life. I learn more from them than they do from me!

What's your job?

I am the Director for TRIO Student Support Services, a federally funded program that serves first-generation college students.

What's a great day at work look like for you?

A great day at work for me is all about connecting with our students. Whether it’s a spontaneous chat while crossing paths on campus, catching up during an event, or a deeper conversation during an advising appointment. I love hearing about their progress, celebrating their successes, and offering support as they continue to grow. Knowing that I can play even a small part in their journeys is incredibly rewarding.

What do you hope will be different in your work this time next year?

By this time next year, I hope we’ll have fully established our peer-to-peer advising model, creating even more meaningful opportunities for our students to connect with each other. I envision a community of support where first-generation college students can share their experiences, offer advice, and mentor each other.

Where's your favorite place on campus?

The Lawrence Hall of Science for the most incredible views of the Bay Area!

Fun fact about me:

I played the cello as a kid.
