Assistant Director of the Transfer Student Center
How long have you been at Berkeley?
Professionally, I have been at Berkeley for five years. I began my career as an Academic Achievement Counselor in 2019 at TRIO Student Support Services (SSS). In May 2020, I started working at the Transfer Student Center (TSC) and have been there ever since. Previously, I was a transfer student here at UC Berkeley after transferring from Cerritos College in Norwalk, CA.
What do you love most about working here?
First and foremost, I love working with transfer students. I am always inspired by their journey, the life experiences that they bring and their resiliency. I also love how supportive the transfer student community is with one another. Working with our student staff is also amazing and by far one of the best things about my job, they are incredibly wonderful and dedicated students who want to make a difference for transfer students at Berkeley. I feel incredibly grateful that I get to play a small role during their journey here at Berkeley. Lastly, I love the wonderful colleagues and mentors here on campus.
What's your job?
I serve as the Assistant Director of the Transfer Student Center here at UC Berkeley. In that capacity I also oversee the Starting Point Mentorship Program, a program that pairs current Berkeley students with prospective students at a California Community College and also oversee the L&S 198 Transition to Cal seminar, a one unit upper division course for first-semester transfer students.
What's a great day at work look like for you?
A great day at work looks like connecting with students, facilitating a great conversation in our transfer seminars and working collaboratively with our wonderful TSC staff to come up with programming for our students with little to no administrative troubleshooting.
What do you hope will be different in your work this time next year?
I hope that by this time next year our Transfer Student Center staff will continue to grow. I hope that we will continue to expand our programs and services at both of our Transfer Student Center spaces and I hope to continue to learn and grow professionally.
Where's your favorite place on campus?
I love walking by Memorial Glade. Every time I’m walking back from facilitating one of our seminars, I have to stop for a second to admire the campus. Some days it still doesn’t quite feel real that I am fortunate enough to do this work.
Fun fact about me:
I am a huge baseball fan! I am on a current mission to visit all 30 Major League Baseball (MLB) ballparks!
