On Fri. 6/ 27, the TSC hosted a retreat of the UC Transfer Success Coalition (UCTSC) whose mission is to share knowledge, collaborate, advocate, and celebrate transfer success at the UCs. At this all-day event, staff from Berkeley, Merced, Davis, LA, Riverside, Santa Barbara, and UCOP came together to network and strategize around the future of transfer success at the UC’s and beyond! Shoutout goes to the TSC’s Assistant Director, Lucy Molina, who put in an incredible amount of work to make this event a success!

Director of Transfer Student Center

How long have you been at Berkeley?

I have been with the Transfer Student Center (TSC) for four years. I started at the TSC in May 2021 as the Latinx Success Counselor and became Director in December 2023.

What do you love most about working here?

Honestly, the people. From staff to students, I have met so many inspirational people. It’s an honor to work alongside professionals who share our passion for educational equity and the transfer student community. I feel lucky to work at a place where some of my colleagues are also my closest friends.

What's your job?

I am the Director of the Transfer Student Center, a support program for currently enrolled transfer students at Cal. We offer Holistic Counseling, Transition Seminars, community building activities, and two centers in the Cesar Chavez Student Center and the newly opened Anchor House.

What does a great day at work look like for you?

During the semester, my schedule can get pretty packed. A great day for me would be a lighter schedule so I have time to walk around campus and check in with staff. I love being able to walk around Chavez and catch up with staff. Working with our student staff is my favorite part of the job, so I would imagine a great day would also include some informal check-ins and staying hip on college student trends. Of course, no perfect day is complete without a ginormous sandwich from Mezzo!

Where's your favorite place on campus?

I love the Morrison Reading Room. The space is incredibly cozy and it feels like you are being transported back in time when you walk in. This space was my go-to spot as a student and I wish I got in there more often as staff.

Fun fact about me:

I make and sell ceramics as my hobby/art therapy/side hustle. I enjoy the creative and meditative process of making ceramics and the learning involved in growing my small business!
