Student Parent Center Lead Peer Advisor
How long have you been at Berkeley?
I have been at UC Berkeley for three years, working at the Student Parent Center while completing my undergraduate degree.
What do you love most about working here?
I love building a sense of community with other student parents and creating a space where we can support and lean on each other. This work has allowed me to grow as a person by gaining experience in outreach, event planning, and marketing. I am always finding new ways to engage with our student parent community.
What's your job?
I am a Lead Peer Advisor at the Student Parent Center.
What's a great day at work look like for you?
A great day at work is when student parents come to our space and share their successes with us. These successes include anything from having their Cost of Attendance Adjustment Request (COAAR) approved, receiving an A on an assignment or exam, or simply getting more than eight hours of sleep. I truly enjoy hearing about their achievements, big or small, and celebrating these moments together as a community.
What do you hope will be different in your work this time next year?
I am hoping that our Student Parent Wellness Initiative will continue to be a vital component in our Student Parent Center (SPC) programming. As student parents, we often place ourselves on the back burner, juggling many responsibilities and neglecting self-care. Last year, through our wellness scholarships, healing clinics, and family-friendly excursions, we built a strong community and reflected on what wellness means to us. Looking ahead, we are committed to expanding these efforts, ensuring that student parents and their families have the resources and support they need to prioritize their well-being and thrive at UC Berkeley.
Where's your favorite place on campus?
My favorite place on campus is the Student Parent Center in Cesar Chavez Student Center. It is my home away from home.
Fun fact about me:
I’m the daughter of a mariachi. I have been surrounded by music my whole life thanks to my dad.
