Reorganization/Mission Alignment

September 13, 2021

Dear campus colleagues,

We are writing to let you know of organizational changes that we are initiating in our divisions to better serve our students and the campus as a whole, to meet our ambitious goals around diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging and justice, and to better align program missions with priorities within our divisions.

The
PATH to Care Center, which leads efforts to prevent sexual and relationship violence as well as supporting survivors, will move from the Division of Student Affairs to the Division of Equity & Inclusion. The mission alignment between E&I and PATH to Care maximizes values-driven synergies to strengthen campus efforts toward prevention, transformation, and advocacy and will meet the needs of staff, faculty, visitors, and students. The PATH to Care Center will continue to work to build a campus free of violence and grounded in social justice.

The
Restorative Justice Center will also transition from Student Affairs to Equity & Inclusion. In its work, the RJ Center asks how systems, cultures and structures enable or exacerbate harm, particularly that having to do with one’s identity. Restorative justice brings people together to build community and address harm through community-based circle processes.

The
Center for Educational Partnerships (CEP) has moved from Equity & Inclusion to Student Affairs. For more than 40 years, CEP has increased the number of diverse California students enrolling and succeeding in higher education by directly addressing college-going barriers typically faced by low-income, first-generation, undocumented, and historically underrepresented students. CEP comprises 12 programs and directly serves more than 75,000 students throughout California through partnerships with schools, community colleges, and community-based organizations. As a leader in college access, CEP also provides capacity building, practical tools, and resources to educators and partners to increase college-going.

We are eager to welcome our colleagues to their new professional homes and to support them in their important work.

Sincerely,

Dania Matos
