October is Dating/Domestic Violence Prevention Month (DVPM), a time to raise awareness and take action in supporting survivors and promoting healthy relationships. Together, we can create a safe and respectful environment for all members of our community.
Commitments we can make as a campus community
- Everyone deserves healthy, respectful relationships, including friendships and intimate relationships.
- Affirmative consent is always necessary; practice open communication and respect in all relationships.
- In unity, we can be agents of change. Let’s collectively stand against domestic violence and extend unwavering support to those who have experienced its impact.

- Domestic and dating violence involves abusive behaviors—physical, emotional, financial, and more.
- 83% of undergraduates and 94% of graduate students can identify concerning behaviors related to abuse.
- 86% of undergraduates and 94% of graduate students would offer support to someone in an abusive relationship.
- Most students know how to report sexual violence and are confident in intervening when needed.

- PATH to Care Center: A dedicated source for confidential support services and proactive prevention initiatives. Their 24/7 Care Line at (510) 643-2005 is accessible whenever you need assistance.
- Office for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination: OPHD receives reports of harassment and discrimination, including relationship violence, provides support to those harmed, and can resolve matters either formally or informally. OPHD oversees campus compliance with policies that prohibit discrimination and harassment for students, faculty, and staff.
