October is Dating/Domestic Violence Prevention Month

October 4, 2023

Dear campus community,

October marks Domestic Violence Prevention Month and presents us with an opportunity to learn, engage, and unite in preventing domestic violence and supporting survivors. As part of our commitment to creating a safe and inclusive community, we invite you to explore events and resources designed to raise awareness and promote healthy relationships.

Care, concern, and support for domestic violence survivors on campus

Promoting a safe and respectful environment for all is our utmost priority at Berkeley and we're proud of our community's commitment to helping prevent sexual violence and harassment. As part of DVPM, the PATH to Care Center has crafted the following “Everybody Deserves to be Safe” messages, reflecting views held by the majority of our community:

  • Healthy relationships respect boundaries

  • Great sex starts and ends with consent

  • Most people at Berkeley want to intervene when noticing sexual violence & sexual harassment (Source: 2018 UCB MyVoice Survey)

If you’d like to share these messages with your network, you can access the “Everybody Deserves to Be Safe” information and graphics on the SVSH website. Together, we're working towards a culture of consent, respect, and support for one another.

Resources

It is important to remember that support is available. The PATH to Care Center is a dedicated source for confidential support services and proactive prevention initiatives. Their 24/7 Care Line at (510) 643-2005 is accessible whenever you need assistance. The Office for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination responds to reports of sexual violence and sexual harassment and can also offer supportive measures and information about rights and options without any requirement to report. Other resources include:

Get involved

We've compiled a comprehensive calendar of events on the Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment (SVSH) hub. If you're hosting a related event, we encourage you to share it with the community.

In unity, we can be agents of change. Let’s collectively stand against domestic violence and extend unwavering support to those who have experienced its impact. Together, we can make a difference.
