The smoke from the California fires has caused our local air quality to worsen. Currently, the Air Quality Index (AQI) for Berkeley is between 201-300 which is in the "Very Unhealthy” category. At this level we recommend that all employees and students in the region take steps to reduce your exposure, whether you are on campus or at home:

The U.S. Department of Education has completed its six-year review of campus compliance with the Clery Act. The review involved an assessment of campus crime statistics, policies and procedures regarding campus safety and crime prevention in place from 2009-2016.

We are writing today to share information on preparedness actions, health cconsiderations, and resources with regards to the most likely risk (in addition to COVID-19) that is coming our way - wildfire smoke. Northern California and UC Berkeley have been heavily impacted by wildfire smoke during the last three fall semseters and is currently experiencing air quality that is unhealthy for sensitive groups.

The University of California Office of the President has revised the Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment policy for all UC campuses. This change complies with new Title IX regulations issued by the U.S. Department of Education, which went into effect Aug. 14.
