UC Berkeley receives AANAPISI designation

April 29, 2024

We're excited to announce that UC Berkeley has once again received designation as an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI) under Title III and/or Title V of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended by the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 (HEA).

This designation not only allows us to apply for grants within the Titles III and V programs but also includes recognition as an AANAPISI. The AANAPISI designation offers UC Berkeley the opportunity to expand support, resources, and services for Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities across our campus, fostering institutional infrastructures and inclusive cultures.

"This designation underscores UC Berkeley's commitment to equity and transformation, and through our inaugural federal grant, the opportunity to provide enriched  support for Southeast Asian and Pacific Islander students" shares Dr. Elisa Diana Huerta, Associate Vice Chancellor of Community Engagement and Transformative Care in UC Berkeley’s Division of Equity and Inclusion.

Institutions designated under Title III and/or Title V, including AANAPISIs, are eligible to apply for grants aimed at enhancing student success, supporting academic programs, and fostering inclusive campus environments.

"With this designation, UC Berkeley is better equipped to address the diverse and complex needs of our AA & PI communities and to create a more equitable and welcoming campus for all," said Dr. Colleen Lye, UC Berkeley Associate Professor of English.

We're proud of this recognition and remain dedicated to advancing our mission of excellence in education, research, and service to society.
