Our Journey

In March 2014, the UC Office of the President released the results of the UC-systemwide Campus Climate survey. Then Chancellor Nicholas Dirks immediately announced a series of initial steps and decisions in support of our goals and aspirations regarding campus climate at Berkeley. He subsequently awarded funding through the campus budget process to the Division of Equity & Inclusion to support and implement new projects and ideas. 

On September 1, 2017, the Division of Equity & Inclusion launched Campus Climate, Community Engagement, and Transformation. The work of this unit focuses on reshaping and influencing policies and practices that increase opportunities, advancing social justice, and creating equitable experiences for all, with a special focus on marginalized and underserved populations. 

A comprehensive effort to address the underrepresentation of African American students, faculty, and staff, and improve the climate for those who are here now and for generations to come.

This Initiative is the direct response to UC Berkeley’s campus climate survey results. Our goal is to create a campus where all Berkeley students, faculty, and staff feel respected, supported, and valued.

Launched in the summer of 2016, through this initiative, we will map the STEM resources across campus, identify opportunities for partnerships, and suggest new policies to support and further STEM students and research on campus.
