E&I Staff Appreciation and Recognition (STAR) Program

The Division of Equity and Inclusion is pleased to announce that the Staff Appreciation and Recognition (STAR) Program is open for nominations in the 2023-24 academic year.

There are 60 total Spot Awards available across the division: 48 are designated for individual awards and 12 as part of team nominations for projects or tasks completed after July 1, 2023.

Nominations must meet at least one of the following five UC Achieve Together Criteria:

  • Collaboration

  • Goal Accomplishment

  • Inclusion & Belonging

  • Innovation

  • Job Mastery

Unique to the Division of Equity and Inclusion, we are opening SPOT Awards to the following additional considerations:

  • Advancing DEIB initiatives (campus-wide)

  • Advancing revenue-generation opportunities

  • Furthering innovation related to thriving in a hybrid work environment that has changed the infrastructure (sustainability)

  • Elevating hidden figures who operationalize and innovate on the larger campus initiatives and/or through challenging times

Awards are not considered for the following:

  • Nominations that describe a nominee's regular work duties

  • Nominations that describe what might be considered within the scope or level of the position (e.g., making presentations at a conference may be different at a director level than at a professional 2 level)

  • If an employee is receiving an administrative stipend, nomination for work that is within the scope of the stipend

  • Nominations that are repetitive of awards received in prior years

  • Nominations where the primary activity is in progress or has not been completed. The supervisor can resubmit a nomination once the activity is completed or work is further along in the process.

How to make a Nomination:

  • Visit the People & Culture Recognition and Awards website for links to the guidelines and eligibility criteria and the STAR nomination form. The program is for PPSM employees as well as staff in the Clerical (CX) bargaining unit.

  • Laronda Chambers is currently the Recognition Award Administrators (RAA) for Equity & Inclusion, so please send your completed forms or any questions you may have to ldchambers@berkeley.edu. Laronda will review nominations for eligibility.

Deadlines:

  • Cross-division nominations should be submitted no later than by Wednesday, May 1, 2024, as the review and approvals process follows the staff member’s respective control unit.

  • The deadline for nominations for Team Awards is Monday, May 6, 2024.

  • Individual Awards are reviewed and approved on a rolling basis until Friday, May 10, 2024 or funds are exhausted.

For team awards, a separate nomination form must be submitted for each member of the team, highlighting their specific contribution to the success of the team effort. Next Level of Authority signature or email approval is required for all nomination submissions.

Signature approvals from the supervisor and next-level authority on the nomination form are required (email approval is fine). Nomination forms submitted without required signatures will not be reviewed for consideration.
