About the Office for Graduate Diversity

OGD serves as a resource for the admissions process, academic support, financial advice, and professional development. It also provides a forum for ideas and programs designed to enhance the educational experience of underrepresented students, including those who are undocumented, first -generation college students, and those who are educationally and financially challenged.

For over 45 years, UC Berkeley has been committed to encouraging and supporting underrepresented students on the Berkeley campus. The Office for Graduate Diversity was established to provide outreach, advising, and mentoring support to students who seek to obtain graduate degrees at UC Berkeley.

For Current Students — Academic Support & Mentoring

We ensure you have the support you need throughout your graduate studies, from admission to completion of your degree. We offer assistance in planning for personal and academic success, professional development, and post-graduation plans. Should you require tutoring or have special need circumstances, financial assistance is available.

The Director of the Office for Graduate Diversity, staff, and campus diversity directors provide mentoring on an ongoing basis. Advising and counseling is available to all currently enrolled students and those considering applying to UC Berkeley, as well as advising on financial planning and funding.

Each year, we hire around 30 graduate students — Diversity and Community Fellows — to help advance and implement the Diversity and Inclusion goals of Office for Graduate Diversity and Graduate Division. Fellows work across and within academic units to create healthy communities for graduate students. Visit our fellows webpage to read about their backgrounds and schedule an appointment.
