This project led by the Campus Community Intiative was co-sponsored by the Chancellor and the Berkeley Division of the Academic Senate. In order to coordinate campus wide activity and to develop new recommendations for advancing the university's vision on diversity and inclusion, the Diversity Project Coordinating Committee (DPCC) was formed in March 2004 and completed its charge in December 2005. The DPCC was a committee of students and alumni, faculty and emeriti, and current and retired staff, co-chaired by Angelica Stacy, associate vice provost for faculty equity and professor of chemistry, and Gibor Basri, chair, committee on the status of women and ethnic minorities, Berkeley Division of the Academic Senate, and professor of astronomy. In January 2005, the DPCC produced a report with a series of recommendations to enhance diversity at UC Berkeley. Many of these recommendations have already been implemented and others are moving forward to action during the 2005/2006 academic year. Since Spring 2003, other activities of the Diversity Project have included:
the development of a prototype Berkeley website on diversity, equity and inclusion for students, staff, faculty and alumni.
