Diversity in Action Forum 2005

"Leading the Nation Through Research and Practice"

Participants in the forum held on March 3rd, 2005 provided input on developing and prioritizing a diversity-focused research agenda for the Berkeley campus. The morning and early- afternoon sessions included a panel discussion by representatives from the Stanford Center for Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity and the Harvard Civil Rights Project. Attendees participated in small working groups to address how they can help the campus create a prioritized research agenda and community centerpiece for the campus on issues of diversity.

The keynote address was delivered by Boalt Hall Dean Christopher Edley, Jr., co-founder of the Harvard Civil Rights Project (www.civilrightsproject.harvard.edu). Chancellor Robert Birgeneau and Berkeley Academic Senate Chair Robert Knapp also spoke.

"The most I've learned in my four years at Berkeley has taken place outside of the classroom-attending Filipino cultural night, going to the Queer graduation, sitting in on a socialist club meeting-things I had never experienced that helped me learn and grow as a person."
