As this position is housed within the Tang Center, the Interim Coordinator will also be required to supply records of immunization and submit to a TB test (TB test provided at no cost by the Tang Center).

Job Description:
The Interim BILD Coordinator position will be the lead staff to the Berkeley Initiative for Leadership on Diversity (BILD), a campus wide initiative to provide opportunities to develop innovative solutions on issues of staff diversity and inclusion in the workplace. The Interim Coordinator will staff the BILD Steering Committee and BILD-related activities, providing high level program development and coordination, strategic planning, managing of critical partnerships, and communications and will also serve as an administrative partner to the Berkeley Staff Assembly (BSA) Mentorship Program committee to assist in strengthening and expanding its campus partners. The Interim Coordinator will be part of a new control unit, the office of the vice chancellor for equity and inclusion, and will report directly to the Manager of the Campus Community Initiative, a department within that office. As this is a campus wide position, the Interim Coordinator will also be expected to travel throughout the UC Berkeley system, including departments housed away from the central campus.
Responsibilities:
*Program Development and Coordination (70%)
- Manage the newly funded BILD projects for the 2007/08 academic year, including soliciting campus wide expertise to develop and implement an assessment process, organizing and coordinating staff development opportunities for project leaders as well as regular information-sharing and reporting meetings, and implementing all fiscal accountability mechanisms for BILD;
-Provide high level administrative support to the BILD steering committee to develop, plan and execute meetings, events and other activities for BILD such as trainings, workshops, presentations, focus groups;
- Work closely with BILD committee chairs to coordinate assignments for committee members;
- Coordinate individual and group meetings including booking conference rooms and necessary equipment, creating and maintaining good relationships with committee members and other campus contacts and arranging any needed reimbursements;
- Develop and implement mechanisms to track data regarding BILD projects with an eye toward creating a model for the campus.
*Developing and Managing Strategic Partnerships (20%)
- Continue to develop and maintain partnerships across campus to support BILD and other campus wide efforts to diversify the staff and create an inclusive workplace environment, including the BSA Mentorship Program;
- Research successful strategies across campus departments, offices and individuals for expertise in improving diversity and inclusion and successful mentoring programs for staff;
- Engage a wide variety and number of departments, offices and individuals to participate in and/or host related activities;
- Work with campus offices to obtain necessary data on the staff population to assist in developing BILD.
*Communications (5%)
- Work closely with committee members and other partners to develop ongoing communications strategies for BILD, BILD-related events;
- Prepare briefings on behalf of the BILD steering committee and their campus partners upon request, as well as assist the committee chairs with briefings to the Office of the Chancellor and the Academic Senate;
- Work closely with committee members to prepare correspondence and other documents such as letters, presentations, reports, announcements and brochures regarding committee business and other related meetings and events;
- Develop effective mechanisms for internal communication with both committees, as well as between the committee members and all staff and faculty on campus, including websites and other online communication tools.
*Other Duties as Assigned (5%)
Requirements and Qualifications:
This position requires proven experience with program management and fiscal responsibility. It also requires comfort in use of a broad range of skills, from negotiation and conflict-resolution to production of reports, minutes and daily communications. The ability to manage multiple and competing priorities and timelines, as well as initiating tasks independently, are necessary skills. Demonstrated political acumen within the University of California system and a high level of success communicating amongst and between diverse communities and varying levels of administration, staff, faculty and students is critical. Intellectual interest dealing with issues of diversity and inclusion is necessary to be successful, and past experience with these issues is recommended.
Also required are excellent personal organizational skills, resourcefulness, good judgment and a high level of flexibility and tolerance for ambiguity. Issues being handled by this position are highly sensitive, visible and critical in nature.

This is an internal recruitment for a 6 month temporary position.
